Surrey 4×4 Tours is a company run by enthusiasts for enthusiasts! Gareth and Stuart have been long term advocates of green lanes in Surrey and are now offering their experience and knowledge to others. Tim has been a lifelong trainer and overlander. Gareth, Stuart and Tim are all certified off-road driving instructors.
A photographer, passionate car enthusiast and former creative agency owner, Gareth has lived in and around Farnham for over 20 years running a highly successful international live events and exhibition agency. Following many years of historic rally driving and all things motorsport, Gareth’s move to 4×4’s came after retirement when, with original business partner Luke, he formed Surrey 4 x 4 Tours in 2017 to create a unique way for people to experience the countryside they know and love.
Gareth owns two Land Rover vehicles including ‘Borris’ his 8 seater 110 Land Rover Defender soft top and ‘Tintin’ a 130 Defender Double Cab Pick up.
He is also Vice Chairman of Farnham’s local charity The Hedgehogs, Charity no 1092862, helping local people in need. Borris can often be seen around Farnham pulling the charities trailers or helping on the many events they run during the year.
Stuart has had a long and varied career in education, photography, video and now 4×4 guiding and training.
After 10 years teaching secondary school graphics and practical subjects, Stuart developed his photographic hobby into what became a significant production company supplying media to leading brands.
He is also governor of two schools and trustee of Farnham based international charity www.grassroots.org.uk that works with impoverished children and families.
Stuart has been involved with Green Laning – the gentle driving of UK byways and unpaved roads – for a number of years and is the Surrey area representative for the Green Lane Association who campaign for driver’s access rights and promote good practice. These values exactly match those of Surrey 4×4 Tours.
Tim has been driving off road since he was 8 years old so that’s nearly 40 years of experience. His professional 4×4 career began in 2000, eventually becoming a 4×4 driving instructor at Land Rover Experience Centres. He went on to become lead instructor, training other instructors around the UK and Worldwide. He also trained members of the military, police, emergency services and personal security drivers.
Tim then joined his family business with wife Caroline selling tourist merchandise at their shops in London. He and his wife have travelled the world extensively on overland driving trips originally in his Discovery 1 (covering a staggering 786,000 miles before swapping to his 110 Defender ‘Maud’.
Trips included expeditions to Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Morocco, Sahara dessert, USA, South America, Australia and Europe. Tim is training manager at Hampshire and Berkshire 4×4 Response, a charity assisting the NHS and emergency services when required. Gareth and
Stuart are also 4×4 response members.
