First class 4x4 Tours and Training
Surrey 4x4 Tours and Training is a partnership of professional enthusiasts with combined decades of laning, training and overlanding experience.
All trainers are fully approved by Lantra and can deliver Lantra Award 4x4 training for professional use as well as self-certified training for the enthusiast.
Courses offered include off-road driving, trailer training, ATVs, trauma and first-aid, and recovery. We also offer green lane 4x4 tours which are run all over the UK and in France, and happen on most weekends.

Based at our sites in Farnham in Surrey and Popham in Hampshire, we also teach at off-road locations around the UK for corporate and private clients at all levels of driving experience.
We are Green Lane Association Affiliated Tour Guides and abide by the GLASS Codes of Conduct.
Tim and Gareth are the official trainers for Hampshire and Berkshire 4x4 Response Charity, Jonathan and Kevin are H&R 4x4 Responders and Stuart is a Surrey 4x4 Responder and a director of The Green Lane Association.
All volunteer their time helping the emergency services and NHS in difficult weather conditions and at outdoor public events.
MEET THE TEAM
Founder and owner of Surrey 4x4 Tours. A passionate car enthusiast and former creative agency owner, Gareth has lived in and around Farnham for over 25 years running a highly successful international live events and exhibition agency. Following many years of historic rally driving and all things motorsport, Gareth’s move to 4x4’s came after retirement when, with original business partner Luke, he formed Surrey 4x4 Tours in 2016 to create a unique way for people to experience the countryside they know and love. Gareth owns two Land Rover vehicles including ‘Borris’ his 8 seater 110 Land Rover Defender soft top and ‘Tintin’ a 130 Defender Double Cab Pick-up.
He is also Vice Chairman of Farnham’s local charity The Hedgehogs, Charity no 1092862, helping local people in need. Borris can often be seen around Farnham pulling the charities trailers or helping on the many events they run during the year. A trustee of Brightwells Community Centre/Charity in Farnham helping to run the charity and deliver meals on wheels at least once a week. He is also a member of SCAF (Surrey Countryside Access Forum). The Forum is an independent body that advises the County Council and others on improving access to the countryside, Gareth represents 4x4 and vehicle access groups.
Stuart has had a long and varied career in education, photography, video and 4x4 guiding and training.
After 10 years teaching secondary school graphics and practical subjects, Stuart developed his photographic hobby into what has become a significant production company supplying media to leading brands across Europe.
He is also a chair of governors at a local schools and a trustee of Farnham based international charity www.Grassroots.org.uk that works with impoverished children and families in Africa, India and beyond.
Stuart has been involved with Green Laning for a number of years and is the Surrey and Sussex area representative and a director of the Green Lane Association who campaign for countryside access rights and promote good practice.
These values exactly match those of Surrey 4x4 Tours.
He tends to operate the more adventurous 'not for shinies' tours, and also runs our tours in France.
Tim has been driving off road since he was 8 years old so that’s nearly 40 years of experience. His professional 4x4 career began in 2000, eventually becoming a 4x4 driving instructor at Land Rover Experience Centres. He went on to become lead instructor, training other instructors around the UK and Worldwide. He also trained members of the military, police, emergency services and personal security drivers.
Tim then joined his family business with wife Caroline selling tourist merchandise at their shops in London. He and his wife have travelled the world extensively on overland driving trips originally in his Discovery 1 (covering a staggering 786,000 miles before swapping to his 110 Defender ‘Maud’.
Trips included expeditions to Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Morocco, Sahara desert, USA, South America, Australia and Europe. Tim is training manager at Hampshire and Berkshire 4x4 Response, a charity assisting the NHS and emergency services when required.
Kevin has been working as a freelance trainer, ADI and expedition leader for many years. He brings his vast knowledge and experience to Surrey 4x4 Tours and Training.
Working with companies such as Land Rover, Jeep, Ford, Volvo and Mitsubishi, Kevin has been involved with vehicle launches and product development plus instructor and end user training. He has also travelled to far-flung and remote locations around the world delivering on and off-road driver training as well as expedition first aid courses. He has worked with mining and exploration companies, aid agencies and charities, security, military and government departments as well as leading many Independent expeditions.
Kevin has used all makes of 4x4 plus bigger HGV 4x4 and 6x6 vehicles on all continents and environments including snow and ice in Arctic regions, the jungles of Borneo and Amazon, high mountains and some of the world’s hottest and most extreme deserts.
He has also been involved in motorsport for many years, starting with road rallies and vehicle trials and later ran a motorsport recovery unit extracting broken rally cars back to their crews and teams, often against the clock to stop rally stages being cancelled. He used his V8 G4 Discovery and often got faster times than some of the competitors.
He has a passion for travel and adventure and his qualifications and technical knowledge of all things 4x4 brings another level to our tours and training.
Having left School and College Jonathan moved in to Financial Services and has worked in this area for all of his career to date, including Sales Management and Training Development, starting his own business in 2001. Alongside this his interest in 4x4`s goes back 40 years, driving off road on his uncles farm from an early age and starting his professional Instructing in 2009, having completed his Instructors Course at The Land Rover Experience centre in Corby. From here he worked at a local off road centre near Reading, moving to Mercedes Benz World shortly after.
In his own time, he has competed in AWDC road taxed vehicle trails with his Suzuki Samurai, lead tours on Salisbury Plain and also been involved in 4x4 response work for the NHS.
Jonathan is a member of Glass and has been involved with Green Laning for many years.
Rohan grew up in Australia with parents who were avid adventurers in successive Land Rovers. So from a very early age, Rohan was always happiest exploring the less-traveled path. Always seeking adventure himself, Rohan was behind the wheel of Land Rovers as soon as he passed his license on his 17th birthday.
After a move to USA in his mid-twenties, and subsequent careers in sales and marketing and civil engineering design, Rohan created an off road tour company in Oregon where he led clients in Land Rover Discovery 3s, or their own vehicles, on back roads tours around Central Oregon. The winter months saw him work at the local ski resort as a ski instructor, realising his affinity for teaching people from all walks of life, new skills, and sharing his passion for the outdoors.
In the USA, Rohan created customer off road events for the Land Rover dealership in Michigan, and started the Great Lakes Land Rover Club there. In Oregon, Rohan was an active member of the Pacific Coast Rover Club where he organised, created and led countless day and multi-day trips throughout Oregon and journeyed beyond to epic locations such as Death Valley.
Now, living in West Sussex, Rohan has continued his adventures by exploring the UK in his and wife Hannah’s trusty Defender 110 camper and hopes to explore more of Europe in the near future. As much as possible with the adage, ‘tarmac is lava’.
Rohan enjoys sharing his years of knowledge with others, is proud to join the Surrey 4x4 Tours & Training team.
